Dick Pope started out as a documentary camera operator. He worked quite a lot within music video production, filming concerts and music videos for artists such as Queen. He later got into the drama genre, and has worked on films such as The Illusionist (2006, dir. Neil Burger) and Man of The Year (2006, dir. Barry Levinson).
Pope’s talk inspired me a lot to think more closely on how to frame scenes as dynamic, when your subject does not move from a specific location. He talked a lot about camera angles and what the different ones of these could achieve. It was really interesting to see how his cinematography collaborates with the soundtrack.
