One of the major topics in my subject area this year is the Maya civilization, and the rainforests in and around Guatemala. I examined character design theory to see if there was a reason for a specific, repeated body shape in today’s industry, and also to understand how to build solid characters from scratch. I looked into the origin of animation to get a clearer understanding of the art form, and how production methods differ from live-action. I looked at some evidence from present day technology trying to make U-turn to earlier aesthetics. For the production design aspect, I specifically looked at films which displayed an influence of either Maya civilization, underwater visuals, or interesting forestry.
